BIPA Committee report commends Irish approach during EU Presidency
A BIPA Committee Report, published this afternoon 21 October, commends the effort of the Irish Government during its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which helped to secure major agreements in high-profile areas. The report states that the Presidency priorities – ‘Stability, Jobs and Growth’ – were also well focussed as they had significance both at European and domestic level. This theme, the report argues, informed all aspects of the work of the Presidency, and the Committee welcomes how this strategy resulted in significant decisions which have been highlighted in this Report.
The publication of the report comes on foot of agreement in March 2013 by Committee B (European Affairs) of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly to undertake an inquiry into the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, January – June 2013. Jo-Anne Dobson MLA and William Powell AM acted as co-rapporteurs for the inquiry.
